Prominent Baloch leader Javed Mengal has strongly criticized what he called “double standards” in international politics, accusing global powers of enabling Pakistan’s controversial actions while ignoring human rights abuses in Balochistan.
In a pointed statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Javed Mengal highlighted the inconsistency of the international community when dealing with Pakistan. He accused Western nations and others of turning a blind eye to Pakistan’s alleged ties with extremist groups and its history of nuclear proliferation including the transfer of nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea, despite continuing to extend diplomatic and material support.
Javed Mengal underscored Pakistan’s troubling human rights record in Balochistan, where, he said, forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings are rampant. He called the global silence on what he described as the “genocide of the Baloch people” deeply troubling.
“The world mostly stays silent,” Mengal wrote, “about what many call the genocide of the Baloch people.”
He further criticized the role of Pakistan’s military, which he noted is largely dominated by individuals from Punjab province. According to Javed Mengal, the military pursues a “two-faced” foreign policy by simultaneously cultivating relationships with competing global powers such as the United States, China, Russia and Iran. This, he argued, has created tensions, as Pakistan’s civilian leaders lean toward Iran while the military maintains ties with the West.
As global attention increasingly focuses on the strategic importance of the region, Mengal warned that the plight of the Baloch people is being dangerously overlooked.
“Their fight is not just a local issue,” he stated. “Their future will affect the region’s peace and stability for many years to come.”
Mengal’s remarks add to the growing chorus of voices calling for international scrutiny of Pakistan’s domestic and foreign policies, particularly as tensions continue to rise in a region critical to global trade and security.
