KHARAN, BALOCHSITAN: Armed men ambushed a convoy of the Pakistani military at Rungan in the Gwash area of Balochistan’s Kharan district, with unconfirmed reports saying at least nine personnel were killed and several others wounded.
According to sources, the convoy consisted of 12 vehicles. The attackers reportedly used heavy and modern weapons.
Sources said the convoy was targeted as it was returning to the town after an operation in Harmagay. A large contingent of Pakistani forces had gone to Harmagay, an area between Kharan and Washuk, for an operation a day earlier.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Similar attacks have occurred in the same area in the past, and responsibility for them was claimed by Baloch separatist groups.
