QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: A protest camp set up by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) against enforced disappearances in Balochistan continued for the 6,378th day outside the Quetta Press Club.
VBMP Chairman Nasrullah Baloch said 10 years have now passed since Shabbir Baloch was forcibly disappeared by security forces from Awaran on October 4. During this time, his family has knocked on the doors of the judiciary and the government and held continuous peaceful protests for his safe recovery, but they have still not been given justice or any credible information about his whereabouts.
He said enforced disappearance does not only deprive an individual of his fundamental rights but also leaves his entire family in prolonged mental anguish, uncertainty and suffering. ‘Justice delayed is justice denied,’ he said and further delay in cases of the forcibly disappeared is unacceptable.
Nasrullah Baloch demanded the immediate recovery of all forcibly disappeared persons, including Shabbir Baloch. If any person faces an allegation or a case, he said, that person should be presented before a court in accordance with the law and given the chance of a fair judicial process.
He called on the government and relevant institutions to end enforced disappearances and deliver justice to the families, while upholding the fundamental rights guaranteed to citizens under the Constitution of Pakistan, the rule of law and constitutional requirements.
