QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Former Police Surgeon Dr Ayesha Faiz Released on Bail in Quetta.
Dr Ayesha Faiz, a former police surgeon, has been released on bail and has returned home, according to reports, after being arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in a case registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Police sources said the case was registered at a CTD police station in connection with a press conference Dr. Faiz held at the Quetta Press Club on August 31, 2026. At the press conference, she spoke about the political situation in Balochistan, its historical background and recent events, including the role of women in the Baloch freedom movement. She also criticised a statement by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti about bulldozing orchards in Mastung in the event of future violent incidents.
Police sources said the case was registered under various sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Details of the specific sections, the reasons for the arrest and other legal proceedings had not emerged at the time of the reports.
Dr Faiz was later produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta. Judge Syed Ali Mubeen approved a three-day physical remand, placing her in CTD custody.
According to sources, a separate case has also been registered against her under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) at the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). She was booked in that case on a complaint filed by the CTD three days earlier.
