QUETTA, BALCHISTAN: Over 35 Students Expelled from University for Not Standing During Pakistani National Anthem
Why did students not stand during the anthem? Parents asked to submit affidavits for students’ re-admission.
A claim has surfaced that more than 35 male and female students were expelled from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) campus in Quetta for not standing and not reciting the Pakistani national anthem.
Imran Baloch, a lawyer and human rights activist from Quetta, said in a post shared on social media that more than 35 students did not stand during a national anthem ceremony at NUST’s Quetta campus, following which they were expelled from the university.
According to the lawyer, the affected students include both Baloch and non-Baloch individuals, while special affidavits have been demanded from their parents for the students to be readmitted to the university.
He said the university administration has instructed parents to submit affidavits in order for the students to be re-enrolled.
However, no official statement has been issued so far by the National University of Science and Technology administration regarding the matter.
