QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has announced a complete shutter-down strike across Balochistan on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in protest against unjust verdicts handed down against BYC chief Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shah Ji Baloch.
In its announcement, BYC appealed to the entire trader community, transporters, students, political workers and the Baloch nation to participate fully in the protest strike and raise their collective voice against injustice.
The committee called on all segments of society to observe the strike peacefully and make it a symbol of unity against what BYC termed a politically motivated judicial decision.
The announcement comes just hours after an Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shah Ji Baloch to life imprisonment in the Raji Muchhi case, a verdict that BYC has strongly condemned, calling it an expression of hatred against the Baloch nation and a violation of basic human rights and principles of justice.
BYC has urged all businesses, educational institutions and transport services across Balochistan to shut down on June 24 in solidarity with the detained leaders and in protest against what the committee has described as a complete breakdown of fair trial principles and judicial transparency.
It is worth noting that Dr. Mahrang Baloch who has spent over fourteen months in detention was sentenced to life imprisonment not for any armed activity but for leading peaceful political protests and raising her voice against enforced disappearances and state oppression in Balochistan. BYC’s announcement of a province-wide shutter-down strike reflects the depth of anger and grief felt across Balochistan following this verdict, and signals that rather than silencing dissent, the sentence may have ignited a broader and more determined wave of peaceful resistance across Balochistan.
