Pashtun Leader Ali Wazir Released from Sukkur Jail After Two Years

Ali wazir released

SINDH: Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir has been released from Sukkur Jail after spending two years in custody.

Ali Wazir was initially arrested on August 3, 2024, by Islamabad police following a traffic accident near Islamabad’s PIMS Hospital. After his arrest, he was transferred across multiple prisons and remained in detention for approximately 21 months.

During his detention, various cases were reportedly registered against him and at times he was also held under the 3MPO (Three-Month Preventive Order) provision.

His release was ordered today by the Additional Registrar of the Sindh High Court Circuit Bench in Hyderabad, following the issuance of a writ of release. He was subsequently freed from Sukkur Jail.

PTM and Pashtun political activists confirmed his release, stating that the state had tried to suppress Pashtun voices for two years, but Ali Wazir remained steadfast despite imprisonment and restrictions.

They added that he continues to be a vocal advocate for Pashtun rights and is expected to intensify resistance against ongoing state and non-state repression in the region.
