QUETTA: The protest camp organized by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) against enforced disappearances in Balochistan has entered its 6,070th consecutive day on Thursday. The camp, described as the world’s longest-running peaceful protest, continues outside the Quetta Press Club.
During the protest, the mother of Mahmood Ali Langov, who has been forcibly disappeared, visited the camp and recorded her protest. She stated that one and a half years have passed since her son’s disappearance, yet despite continuous peaceful protests and repeated appeals, he has neither been recovered nor has any information been provided by the authorities.
She said her family has approached all relevant government institutions responsible for justice and accountability but has received nothing but disappointment. As a result, she added, the family is suffering severe mental and emotional distress. She demanded that the government disclose her son’s whereabouts and ensure his immediate recovery.
Speaking at the camp, VBMP Chairman Nasrullah Baloch said that enforced disappearances have no place in the constitution or law of the country, which guarantees fundamental rights to every citizen. He emphasized that it is the constitutional responsibility of state institutions to deal with missing persons and their families in accordance with the law.
Nasrullah Baloch further stated that if any individual is involved in illegal activities, they should be arrested through legal means rather than being forcibly disappeared. He said families should be informed of the well-being and legal status of detained individuals to relieve them of prolonged suffering and to address the growing unrest in Balochistan.
The VBMP chairman urged the government and heads of state institutions to immediately end the practice of enforced disappearances and take concrete steps to bring Mahmood Ali Lango and all other missing persons before the law.
