QUETTA: The Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express came under an armed attack on Monday in the Bolan Pass area of Kachhi district, Balochistan.
According to railway officials, the Jaffar Express departed from Quetta for Peshawar on its scheduled time, and after passing through Machh station, it came under fire from gunmen positioned in the nearby mountains when it reached the vicinity of Ab-e-Gum.
Railway officials said that all carriages of the Jaffar Express remained safe in the armed attack. A senior railway officer stated that there were no casualties in the firing incident and all passengers on board remained unharmed.
He added that after the firing, the train was stopped, and once security clearance was obtained, it was allowed to resume its journey toward its next destination. Following the armed attack on the train, security on the railway track was tightened.
The Jaffar Express has repeatedly been targeted in attacks, including bomb blasts and rocket attacks on the railway track between Quetta and Jacobabad.
According to Baloch pro-independence groups, Pakistani security personnel deployed in Balochistan from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa use train services as a means of travel, and these train services have repeatedly been targeted by Baloch insurgents.
