In Wadh, a tehsil of Khuzdar district, residents staged a sit-in on the national highway Saturday morning to demand the recovery of Abdul Bari Sheikh, son of Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, who has been disappeared. The protest completely halted traffic on the Quetta–Karachi highway.
Although local elders and the administration had negotiated on Friday and announced that the highway would not be blocked, protesters said no progress was made regarding Abdul Bari’s recovery despite assurances. They stated that the ongoing inaction forced them to shut down the highway.
The blockade caused long queues of passenger buses and vehicles. Some buses attempted to take alternative routes but were unable to find a viable passage.
Protesters said they had been in contact with authorities for several days but received only verbal assurances. According to the family, they had earlier warned that if Abdul Bari was not recovered by Friday evening, the highway would be closed indefinitely an ultimatum they carried out today.
Protesters demanded immediate and effective steps for his recovery, warning that their demonstration would continue until concrete action is taken.
