The spokesperson for the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has stated that the organization’s central leadership has been subjected to systematic and deliberate legal delays for the past six months, resulting in the continuous extension of their unlawful detention.
According to the statement, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, central organizer of BYC, along with Bibgar Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Jee, Beebow Baloch and Gulzadi Baloch, were transferred to Huda Jail, Quetta after a lengthy period of physical remand. They are currently under judicial custody. However, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has yet to submit a charge report despite repeated court directives.
The spokesperson added that the repeated extensions granted by the court to the CTD reflect a coordinated effort by judicial and state institutions to deliberately delay the legal proceedings against the BYC leadership, with the aim of keeping them in custody for as long as possible.
Recently, the prison authorities informed the detained leaders that their next hearing would be held inside the jail rather than in court, citing “security concerns” as the reason. The spokesperson condemned this move, describing it as a grave violation of basic human rights and a blatant disregard for national and international legal norms.
The spokesperson also expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of Bibgar Baloch, a disabled social activist, who is reportedly suffering from a severe urinary tract obstruction and is in urgent need of surgery. Despite this, prison authorities have failed to provide necessary medical treatment — a stance the BYC described as both inhumane and against the rights of prisoners.
The BYC called on the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and civil society to urgently intervene, take notice of the illegal detention and human rights violations, and pressure the Government of Pakistan to ensure a fair trial, proper medical care, and full access to legal rights in accordance with international law.
