QUETTA: Local authorities sealed the Zawar Bookshop, a prominent cultural and intellectual hub, here on Friday following orders from the Deputy Commissioner.
The bookstore is owned by the family of Ghani Baloch, an MPhil scholar of Brahui literature and political activist, who was forcibly disappeared by Pakistani intelligence agencies from Khuzdar in May this year.
Family members described the closure as a deliberate act of harassment, saying it not only threatens their livelihood but also stifles access to books and intellectual life in the city. They demanded that the shop be reopened immediately, warning that silencing the bookshop is part of a broader attempt to suppress dissent.
“They continue to protest for the safe recovery of Ghani Baloch,” the family said, “and view the sealing of the shop as an effort to silence calls for justice and intimidate those who seek accountability.”
