Quetta: Road accidents in Balochistan have risen alarmingly over the past five years, causing heavy loss of life and leaving thousands of families facing physical, emotional and financial hardship.
According to data released by Rescue 1122, between October 22, 2019 and September 12, 2025, as many as 77,826 traffic accidents were reported across the province. These incidents claimed 1,743 lives and left 103,902 people injured.
In just the first half of 2025 (January to June), 12,110 accidents occurred, resulting in 239 deaths and 15,690 injuries. The year 2024 also saw alarming figures, with 20,300 accidents that left 471 people dead and more than 17,500 injured or permanently disabled.
Experts identify speeding, poor road conditions, traffic law violations and weak enforcement as the leading causes of accidents. Meanwhile, civil society and human rights activists argue that despite government claims, little improvement has been seen in road maintenance, traffic management, or rescue services.
