Powerful explosions rocked Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Tuesday, with sources claiming that Israel targeted senior Hamas leadership.
An Israeli military official confirmed that Hamas leaders were the intended target of the attack. Earlier, Reuters had also reported the development, citing an Israeli officer. A Hamas representative told the BBC that their negotiating delegation came under attack during a meeting in Doha.
Eyewitnesses told Reuters that plumes of smoke were seen rising over several parts of the capital due to the intensity of the blasts, particularly in the Katara district.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed striking Hamas leadership but did not clarify the exact location or country of the operation. So far, Qatar has issued no official response to the incident.
The attack comes a day after Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a stern warning on Monday, declaring: “This is the final warning for Hamas in Gaza and abroad. They must immediately release the captives and lay down their arms, or Gaza will be destroyed and Hamas will be completely eliminated.”
The incident has further escalated tensions in the region, with the international community calling for close monitoring of the rapidly developing situation.
