The Immortals of Herof

The Story of Mahal Baloch and the Martyrs Who Lit the Flame of Freedom

Written By Ruzhn Baloch

Life is one of the most precious gifts. Everyone longs to live, to feel and to enjoy the beauty this world has to offer because we get only one life. We yearn to experience every moment, the sound of waves crashing on the shores, the melody of the air as it sings through the trees, the joy of greenery after rain, the smiling faces of clouds and the proud mountains touching the sky.

But we all know that life isn’t the same for everyone. Some are born into luxury, some manage to fulfill their needs and others fight daily for the most basic of necessities. Despite these differences, there is one thing more important and more valuable than anything else, freedom.

Freedom, the right to live without fear, the right to speak, to breathe, to dream is the foundation of a dignified life. And when this freedom is taken away, people rise. They fight. They sacrifice.Balochistan is a land full of such fighters. A land where countless brave men and women have laid down their lives so that future generations can live in a free homeland. This land has raised heroes and among them is a name that will never fade, Mahal Baloch, Born in the beautiful coastal city of Gwadar, Shaheed Fidayee Mahal Baloch, alias Zilan Kurd, was more than just a name. She was intelligent, kind hearted and deeply connected to her land. She was a student of LLB, 8th semester, with a bright future ahead of her. But she chose a different path not for glory, not for recognition, but for the dream of a free Balochistan. From a young age, she understood the pain of occupation and the value of freedom. Her spirit was fearless and her love for Balochistan was unshakable.

On the night of 25 August 2024, under a sky full of stars and a silence heavy as stone, a girl with a clear mission drove vehicles full of gunpowder into the Bela Gate Camp of Balochistan. That night, history was rewritten in fire and resolve. That night, Balochistan embraced her daughter and sons, who offered the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, for dignity and for the future of their homeland.
This wasn’t a single moment it was a powerful, sustained operation that continued through 25 and 26 August, shaking the enemy forces and capturing the attention of an entire region. The earth trembled not with fear, but with resistance. Before embarking on her final mission, during a quiet moment with her comrades, someone asked her:

“What is life for you?”
She answered with a calm, radiant smile:

‎“اس سے پہلے کی زندگی، زندگی نہیں تھی… میری تو زندگی آج شروع ہونے والی ہے”.
“The life I lived before this wasn’t truly life. My real life is about to begin.. today.”

She wasn’t choosing death. She was choosing immortality to live forever in the soul of her nation. This bold and historic mission was named “Operation Herof”. In this operation, they captured the Bela Headquarters of the occupying army. A victory not just of land, but of spirit, identity and defiance.

The brave Fidayees of Operation Herof – Bela were:
Mahal Baloch (Zilan Kurd), Gaus Bakhsh Sumalani, Tayyab Baloch, Mohammad Bakhsh, Rizwan Baloch, Mohand Baloch, Asif Nichari, Fazal Gul Zehri and Junaid Zehri. They wrote their names not in ink, but in fire, blood and history. They are not gone they are alive in the heart of the Baloch nation. Their sacrifice is now the face of the freedom movement.

Now, a year has passed since those fateful days. Yet Mahal Baloch and her comrades are still with us not physically , but in something greater: spirit, memory and resistance. They are the wind on the Makuran coast, the strength of the Sulaiman mountains, the silence of Dasht and the light in every Baloch child’s eyes. Mahal was not just a fighter. She was a symbol of courage, clarity and the unbreakable strength of Baloch women. She walked side by side with her brothers, proving that freedom is not limited by gender it is defined by dedication. Today, as we honor Mahal Baloch and the brave souls of Operation Herof, we are not merely remembering the past we are shaping the future. Their courage ignites our determination.
Their sacrifice strengthens our resolve. Their dream of a free homeland becomes our mission. Some people live long lives and are forgotten. Others live a single moment and become eternal. Mahal and her fellow martyrs were the latter. They did not get to grow old but they grew into legends. Their names are carved not in stone but in the soul of Balochistan.

On this first anniversary of Operation Herof 25 and 26 August 2025 we do not mourn.
We celebrate their immortality. We promise, We will not forget. We will not stop. Mahal Baloch, Gaus Bakhsh, Tayyab, Mohammad Bakhsh, Rizwan, Mohand, Asif, Fazal Gul and Junaid You are not just names. You are the breath of our resistance, the blood of our struggle and the light of our future.

Long live Our all Martyrs. Long live Balochistan.
