Sammi Deen Baloch, a prominent leader of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee, has strongly condemned the killing of Zeeshan Zaheer, describing it as a profound tragedy not only for one family but for all of Balochistan. She stated that “every home is drowning in sorrow, and every heart is heavy,” adding that this is not just the murder of a person, but the brutal assassination of justice, humanity and hope.
Zeeshan Zaheer, the only son of Zaheer Baloch who has been forcibly disappeared for the past ten years was actively engaged in a peaceful campaign for his father’s recovery. Sammi Deen Baloch said that killing a young man who was merely demanding justice is not just a crime; it is part of a systematic collective punishment inflicted upon an already tormented family. “What Zeeshan’s family has endured cannot be described in words,” she said.
She further emphasized that in a place where brutality, impunity and lawlessness are backed by the state, human life becomes worthless. “In Balochistan, we find dead bodies daily. The question is: where should the Baloch go to seek justice? In which court should they present their case when the state itself plays the role of both judge and oppressor?”
Sammi Deen highlighted that enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings have become the norm in Balochistan. Despite these grave human rights violations, no state institution takes action, no law is enforced, and no system of accountability is visible. The real tragedy, she said, is the growing indifference toward these crimes, which is a dangerous sign for any society.
