The spokesperson of the National Democratic Party (NDP) has issued a statement marking one month since the enforced disappearance of the party’s central leader, Sangat Ghani Baloch.
According to the statement, Ghani Baloch was forcibly disappeared on May 25, 2025, near Al-Qadri Hotel in Khuzdar by state institutions. Despite the passage of a full month, no information has been shared about his whereabouts, and the state has not officially acknowledged his arrest. The party condemned the incident as unconstitutional, inhumane, and a blatant violation of all international human rights norms.
The NDP emphasized that enforced disappearance deprives the victim of legal protection and subjects them to uncertain and torturous conditions. It constitutes a form of collective punishment, causing deep trauma to the victim’s family, political companions, students and book-loving community.
The party also pointed out that enforced disappearances in Balochistan have reached alarming levels, with a surge in such cases this year, reflecting a worsening human rights crisis.
The NDP has strongly demanded that Ghani Baloch be brought to light immediately. If there are any legal charges against him, he should be presented in court in accordance with the Constitution and given the right to defend himself.
The statement further stressed the need for an immediate end to the ongoing practice of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, which violates not only the Constitution of Pakistan but also international human rights treaties.
To mark one month since his disappearance, the NDP will launch an online campaign on X (formerly Twitter) today, June 25, 2025, and calls upon all political activists, human rights defenders, journalists, intellectuals, and students to actively participate.
Raising voices for the recovery of Ghani Baloch and all victims of enforced disappearances is a moral responsibility of every conscientious individual.
