Quetta: The spokesperson of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has issued a statement strongly condemning the continued harassment of its imprisoned leaders in Quetta’s Hudda Jail by the newly appointed jail superintendent, Syed Hameedullah Pichahi.
According to the statement, Superintendent Syed Hameedullah Pichahi is not only denying the political prisoners their legal and human rights but is also adopting an authoritarian and abusive attitude, subjecting BYC leaders to both mental and physical torment. The families of these leaders are reportedly being harassed as well, often being forced to wait outside the prison for hours, up to three hours, before being allowed visitation.
The spokesperson further revealed that BYC leaders Bibgar Baloch and Shah Ji Baloch have been placed in solitary confinement, where they are deprived of medical treatment, family visits, and other fundamental rights. When they protested these conditions, the superintendent responded with verbal abuse and even attempted physical violence. Bibgar Baloch, who suffers from a physical disability, is in urgent need of regular medical care, which the prison authorities are reportedly refusing to provide.
The statement also highlighted that BYC’s Central Organizer, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, along with fellow detainees Beebow Baloch and Gulzadi Baloch, are facing continuous harassment. Instead of addressing their legitimate concerns, the jail authorities have intensified their mistreatment. When these women raised their voices for their rights, they were subjected to threats and further pressure.
The BYC spokesperson issued a stern warning to the prison authorities and the superintendent, demanding an immediate end to the harassment of their leaders. He called for the restoration of all legal, human, and medical rights of the detained activists and affirmed that the organization would not remain silent in the face of such oppression.
