Genocide and Collective Punishment in Balochistan Have Reached New Extremes: Dr. Naseem Baloch

Balochistan – Dr. Naseem Baloch, Chairman of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), has strongly condemned the intensifying violence in Balochistan, stating that Pakistan has not only continued its genocidal campaign against the Baloch people but has escalated it to horrifying new levels.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Naseem said, “Pakistan has made a conscious decision to turn Balochistan into a living hell. The ongoing slow-paced genocide has now transformed into a campaign of collective punishment with increasing brutality. The goal is not just to kill, but to traumatize generations and crush their spirit. However, our message remains clear: we are ready to pay the price for our national freedom.”

Highlighting a recent surge in state violence, Dr. Naseem pointed out that several enforced disappearances have ended in staged encounters. He cited the case of 13 victims who were previously disappeared and later killed by the Pakistani military in four separate incidents over four months in the Koh-e-Sulaiman region. These individuals, many of whom had been missing for years, were executed despite their innocence, even as their families desperately sought justice.

“In addition to these killings, 16 youths from the Buzdar tribe have been forcibly disappeared. From Quetta to Gwadar, Awaran to Noshki, every corner of Balochistan is witnessing brutalities that suffocate any semblance of humanity,” he said.

Dr. Naseem recounted several recent atrocities:

  • In Mashkay, the military abducted and killed eight young men, dumping their bodies afterwards.
  • Journalist Lala Latif Baloch, who had previously been abducted and tortured, was shot dead in front of his family during a military raid on his home.
  • In Malar Machi, Awaran, two attacks were carried out on a single family. Youth Naeem Baloch and Bibbi Hoori Baloch were executed inside their home, and multiple others, including Bibbi Dadi Baloch, were injured.
  • In Jhao, two young men were abducted from their homes and later found dead.
  • University student Mahjabeen Baloch, who suffers from polio, was abducted by military forces from her hospital hostel in the dead of night. Her brother had already been disappeared.
  • Tariq Baloch was abducted from Noshki, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

“These are not isolated incidents but part of a systematic state policy aimed at silencing the Baloch nation, erasing their history, and crushing their struggle for freedom,” he said.

Dr. Naseem Baloch also warned of a new tactic being employed by the state: the use of religious extremism as a weapon against the Baloch people. “Alongside military oppression, Pakistan is now using religious groups as part of its broader strategy to suppress the national movement,” he said.

Calling on international bodies to intervene, he added, “The Baloch National Movement urgently appeals to the United Nations, European Union, and all international human rights organizations to take immediate and concrete steps against the ongoing genocide and enforced disappearances in Balochistan. In particular, the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances must act without delay. Continued silence only enables Pakistan to commit further atrocities.”

Dr. Naseem concluded by paying tribute to the ongoing resistance, especially the role of Baloch mothers, sisters, daughters, and youth. “Their unwavering protests represent the highest symbol of our national resistance. Pakistan’s deployment of military death squads and extremist groups to crush these protests only exposes the moral and political bankruptcy of the state.”

Despite the atrocities, he reiterated the BNM’s commitment to its cause: “We will continue our struggle for human dignity, national freedom, and survival—politically, diplomatically, and with greater resolve.”
