The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has paid tribute to one of its fighters, Zahid Sumalani Baloch, also known as Meeral Jan, who was killed during a clash with a state-backed death squad in Kharan’s Jorkin area. In a statement to the media, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said that on May 16, 2025, BLF fighters were on an important mission in the region when they encountered armed members of a death squad operating under Pakistani military patronage.
A fierce and prolonged gun battle ensued, during which Zahid Sumalani Baloch, son of Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumalani from Nal, Kodask, was critically injured but continued to resist and held off the attackers for hours, enabling his comrades to retreat safely. He ultimately embraced martyrdom, adhering to what the BLF described as the “philosophy of the last bullet.”
According to the BLF, Zahid Sumalani joined the organization in March 2022 and participated in several operations against enemy forces across Mashkay, Jhao, Awaran, Gichk, and Kharan. The group expressed deep respect and gratitude for his sacrifice, vowing to carry forward the mission of Baloch national liberation.
Separately, the BLF also claimed responsibility for a recent attack on Pakistani military forces in Kharan. Major Gwahram Baloch stated that on May 22, 2025, around 2 PM, BLF fighters targeted a Pakistani army checkpoint near Lattad Road on the Southern Bypass of Kharan with multiple rounds from a grenade launcher. The shells hit specific targets inside the military camp, reportedly causing both human and material losses to the occupying forces.
The BLF reiterated its commitment to continuing its armed resistance against what it describes as the occupation of Balochistan by Pakistani forces.
