The death toll from the truck fire incident that occurred on April 28 in Nushki district, Balochistan, has risen to 20 following the deaths of several injured individuals. The high number of fatalities among those undergoing treatment has caused deep concern among the victims’ families, who have expressed dissatisfaction with the medical facilities provided.
Initially, only the truck driver was reported dead in the incident, but three more victims succumbed to their injuries within the next 24 hours. The severely injured were first provided medical aid and then transferred to Quetta, while over 20 victims were airlifted via a C-130 aircraft to private hospitals in Karachi. In recent days, more than ten of them have passed away.
According to Nushki Police, the confirmed death toll stands at 19, while Member of the Balochistan Assembly, Ghulam Dastgir Badini, reported 20 deaths during a session of the provincial assembly. He expressed concern over the alleged mistreatment of families and negligence in treatment at private hospitals in Karachi and urged the government to take immediate notice.
The tragic incident occurred when a truck caught fire during welding at the Nushki truck stand. One driver managed to steer the truck away from a populated area, preventing a larger disaster, but the original driver was unable to escape and died on the spot. While local residents were attempting to extinguish the fire, the truck’s tank exploded, severely burning more than 60 people.
