In Turbat, the main city of Balochistan’s Kech district, a three-day sit-in protest demanding the return of bodies ended last night following successful negotiations between the district administration and the All Parties Kech alliance. After the protest concluded, funeral prayers in absentia were held today (Sunday) in Gokdan and Absar for Nabeel Hot, Umar Singhoor, and Feroz Sarban.
The sit-in was held at D-Baloch Cross and Keesak, where the M-8 highway connecting Turbat to Gwadar, Karachi, Panjgur, and Quetta remained blocked. Protesters were demanding the handover of the bodies of young men killed in an armed clash with Pakistani forces in the Dank area. Authorities, however, claimed the bodies had already been buried due to their deteriorated condition.
The peaceful conclusion of the protest was made possible through the efforts of District Chairman Hotman Baloch, the Kech Bar Association, All Parties Kech, and members of Turbat’s civil society. Human rights activist Waseem Safar had announced that funeral prayers in absentia for the three youth would be held at 10:30 AM, which were later conducted in Gokdan and Absar.
