In two separate incidents of violence in Balochistan, armed assailants targeted security forces in Mastung and Turbat, leaving two Levies personnel dead and triggering concerns over the safety of frontline workers and law enforcement in the region.
In Mastung district’s Killi Teri area, two Levies personnel assigned to provide security to a polio vaccination team were ambushed by unidentified gunmen. One officer was killed on the spot, while the other, critically injured, later succumbed to his wounds at Shaheed Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital. The deceased were identified as Niaz Muhammad, son of Muhammad Hassan, from the Shahwani tribe and a resident of Rodrees, and Maqsood Ahmed, son of Habib Khan, from the Dhohar tribe and a resident of Kariz Kalan, Pirangabad, Mastung. Levies officials confirmed that the attack deliberately targeted those protecting the polio team.
On the same night, in Turbat city’s Ghinnah area part of the Kech district, Unidentified assailants launched a surprise attack on a police checkpoint. The assault was marked by loud explosions and intense gunfire. Police officials reported that law enforcement officers responded swiftly, engaging in a firefight with the attackers. Although no casualties were reported in this incident, the attack raised alarms about the continued threat faced by security forces in volatile areas.
While no group has claimed responsibility for either attack at the time of reporting, such incidents have often been linked to Baloch armed organizations operating in the region.
