Quetta: Sammi Deen Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has expressed concern on social media over the state’s suppression of peaceful protest by families of political detainees. She stated that while the judiciary has failed to deliver justice, the families of those held in illegal custody are also being denied their basic right to protest.
In a social media post, Sammi Deen Baloch wrote that the families of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Jee, Bibgar Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Beebow Baloch and other political prisoners had set up a protest camp outside the Quetta Press Club to demand their immediate and unconditional release. However, the camp was forcibly dismantled by the police.
Despite extreme heat and being forced to sit under the open sky, the families continue their protest.
She emphasized that the purpose of the protest is to raise voices against state repression and call for the release of innocent political prisoners. Preventing families from setting up a peaceful protest camp is, She said, a serious violation of the constitutional right to freedom of expression and assembly.
Sammi Deen Baloch urged all citizens of Quetta, along with political and social activists, human rights defenders, and conscientious individuals, to join the protest camp and show solidarity with the affected families.
