Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the leader of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), has stated that the ongoing sit-in protest in Quetta will continue, as the government has yet to take any serious steps to address the protesters’ demands.
Akhtar Mengal revealed that former Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani had contacted him in a personal capacity regarding the protest, but there was no discussion about ending the sit-in. “Our protest will continue, because the government has shown no meaningful progress so far.”
Criticizing the current administration, Akhtar Mengal said, “This is the first government that has blocked roads itself, causing suffering to the public.” He noted that the Chief Minister and other ministers appear powerless and their visits to the protest have proven fruitless.
He added, “The government is not only punishing the people, but by keeping roads blocked for the past 12 days, it is also tarnishing its own reputation.”
Akhtar Mengal said the BNP has reached out to the federal government and the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League (N), but no positive response has been received yet.
He demanded that serious efforts be made to resolve the issues facing the people; otherwise, the protest will continue.
