QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Dr. Sabiha Baloch, a central leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), said in a video message that the life sentence handed down to Gulzadi Baloch is a clear sign of Pakistan’s judicial system failing to deliver justice.
Reacting to the sentence, Dr. Sabiha said the verdict against Gulzadi and other leaders reflects poorly on the judiciary, adding that the judges themselves acknowledged being under pressure while announcing the sentences a fact she said raises serious questions about judicial independence and autonomy.
Speaking about the current situation in Balochistan, she said the Balochistan has effectively been turned into a prison, with curfews imposed in various areas and restrictions placed on civilian life. She said enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings have also increased.
Dr. Sabiha further said that while authorities claim to have reached out to BYC leaders for talks, the real intent, in her view, was to silence their voices.
In the video, she said, “We cannot be silenced until the atrocities being committed in Balochistan come to an end.”
