QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: The spokesperson for the Baloch National Movement (BNM) has condemned the Pakistan Air Force’s bombardment of the Gidar area, located in Balochistan’s Surab, calling it a “blatant war crime”.
According to the BNM, airstrikes targeting residential areas killed more than 20 civilians, including children under the age of ten, sparking what the group described as grave concerns over human rights and civilian safety across Balochistan.
The spokesperson said that bombing civilian populations and killing children amount to flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. The BNM further said that the Pakistan Army was not acting alone, claiming that local politicians and political parties who “facilitate” such actions are equally complicit in what it called indiscriminate force against civilians, home demolitions and forced displacement.
The BNM urged the European Union and other international bodies to take swift, effective action rather than “remaining silent” on what it termed a humanitarian crisis. Specifically, the group called on the EU to immediately suspend Pakistan’s GSP+ trade status, arguing that such preferences are contingent on compliance with fundamental human rights standards.
The spokesperson also urged international media outlets to report “factual, impartial” news rather than what the BNM described as one-sided narratives from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The group called for immediate international intervention and an independent investigation by global rights organizations, warning that a failure to respond promptly would deepen the humanitarian situation in Balochistan and undermine the credibility of international institutions.
