In Quetta, the central city of Balochistan, a press conference was held today, Sunday, at the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons camp by the families of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shah Ji, to raise their voices against the continued detention and life imprisonment sentences handed down by an Anti-Terrorism Court.
The families declared the verdict unjust and demanded the immediate release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and others.
The families emphasized that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shah Ji have always advocated through peaceful means, raising concerns about enforced disappearances, human rights violations and justice in Balochistan.
They stated that sentencing peaceful political voices to life imprisonment is an attack on fundamental rights, freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly.
During the press conference, the families announced a peaceful protest tomorrow and appealed to people from all walks of life including students, lawyers, political activists, human rights defenders, journalists, civil society members and the general public to stand in solidarity against this grave injustice and participate in the demonstration.
The families urged the public to unite and demand justice, protection of fundamental rights and the right to a fair trial for Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Ji Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch and Beebow Baloch.
