ZIARAT, BALOCHISTAN: Unidentified armed men launched a coordinated attack on a police post and a Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) convoy at Zero Point in Ziarat, Balochistan, killing one person and wounding five others including four police personnel, officials confirmed.
Deputy Commissioner Ziarat Abdul Qaddus Achakzai confirmed the details of the attack, stating that armed individuals opened fire on police officers stationed at a checkpoint at Zero Point. At the time of the assault, the convoy of SP Ziarat was also passing through the same location and the attackers simultaneously opened fire on the senior officer’s motorcade as well.
The attack claimed the life of a civilian identified as Nasir, who was caught in the line of fire during the assault. Four police personnel Muhammad Asif, Nazir Ahmed, Saddam and Asghar sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire. A passerby identified as Ziaulllah was also wounded in the attack.
All five wounded individuals were initially provided emergency medical treatment at District Hospital Ziarat before being transferred to Quetta for further medical care due to the severity of their injuries.
Following the attack, a heavy contingent of police and security forces cordoned off the entire area around Zero Point. Search operations were launched in the surrounding region to trace and apprehend the assailants, who managed to flee the scene following the attack.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
