The United Nations Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body within the United Nations system responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world. The UNHRC is composed of 47 member states elected by the UN General Assembly based on equitable geographical distribution. It meets regularly in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss human rights issues, review the human rights records of UN member states and address specific human rights situations through resolutions and other mechanisms. The council focuses on a wide range of human rights issues, including civil and political rights, economic, cultural, the rights of women and other vulnerable groups. UNHRC plays a crucial role in promoting dialogue, cooperation, and action on human rights at the international level.
The 55th session of UNHRC concluded in Geneva along with member states many indigenous representatives were there including Baloch and Kurd. It’s been a while and every year we see conferences and demonstration in front of broken chair but hardly we encounter any result. It’s an obvious and realistic to grab such an opinion after not seeing any action regarding enforced disappearances, extra judicial killings and other state’s heinous acts. Political process needs more resilience rather satisfaction and one thing we must bear in mind what were the objectives of our political diaspora of going there. The answer is obviously collective rather subjective, to uncover Pakistan’s brutal policies against Baloch nation Infront of world and to represent Baloch as a free and sovereign Nation. As per following reports, engaging with international bodies to report and represent Documents of Human Rights Abuses by Pakistani security forces, advocacy and awareness rising were the main objectives of Baloch National Movement in this Campaign. Projection and execution of demonstrations were well done by foreign body as compare to previous programs.
We found many programs which made it a campaign rather a demonstration. In recent Conference gathering people from different walk of life were gather, such as Sir John McDonnel, which is a very well-known MP in British parliament regarding his stance on critical issues.
Throughout the years many Baloch representative went to Geneva to represent Baluchistan but none of them had a collective agenda accept Baloch national Movement and maybe that’s the reason we find it hard to see them in recent years. Despite having flaws and dissatisfactions in BNM campaigns but throughout years we saw a lot of productive changes in organizing and representing Baloch Cause in every aspect.
