QUETTA: The Students Alliance at the University of Balochistan has condemned the unannounced closure of hostels by the university administration, saying it has jeopardized the academic future of thousands of students. Students from remote areas are facing severe mental, financial, residential and academic hardships due to the closure.
The alliance expressed concern that while the administration continues to ignore this fundamental issue, the university’s own rules mandate that hostels must be opened at least one week before classes begin to ensure attendance by students coming from distant regions. However, two weeks into the semester, hostel doors remain closed, violating university regulations. The alliance called this not just administrative incompetence but an educational crisis for the students.
The university administration was urged to stop causing further distress under the pretexts of biometric attendance and re-allotment processes. The students demanded the immediate suspension of the online attendance system until all students are provided accommodation in the hostels.
The alliance warned that if the hostels are not reopened by tomorrow at 12:00 pm, students will raise their voices on every available platform. Boycotting classes and staging protests in front of the administrative block will be the next course of action. The university administration will be solely responsible for any consequences arising from the situation.
