QUETTA: The protest camp established by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) against enforced disappearances has entered its 6,132nd day outside the Quetta Press Club, making it one of the longest-running peaceful protests in the world.
The camp organisers represents not just a protest but a symbol of patience, suffering and hope for families whose loved ones have been missing for years.
VBMP Chairman Nasrullah Baloch stated that the families of missing persons continue to endure severe mental anguish and uncertainty, calling the situation a matter of serious concern for any civilized society. He said enforced disappearances constitute a grave violation of human rights and a clear denial of constitutional and legal principles.
He emphasized that no individual should be detained or disappeared without due legal process, stating that such actions are contrary to the fundamental principles of justice.
The statement also reminded the government of its constitutional responsibility to ensure the protection of citizens and the provision of justice. It urged that if any individual is accused of wrongdoing, they should be presented before a court of law, and if found innocent, released immediately.
The VBMP demanded the recovery of all missing persons, an immediate end to enforced disappearances, and legal action against those responsible.
The group expressed hope that authorities would acknowledge the suffering of affected families and take concrete steps to resolve the long-standing issue.
