GENEVA: Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) central leader Dr. Sabiha Baloch addressed the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNRCH), highlighting concerns over the human rights situation in Balochistan.
In her address, she drew attention to what she described as a continuing pattern of enforced disappearances, stating that individuals are being taken without due process while their families are left without information regarding their whereabouts.
She also raised concerns over extrajudicial killings and incidents of body dumping, describing them as serious violations occurring in the absence of accountability.
Dr. Sabiha Baloch further pointed to what she termed a shrinking civic space, noting that journalists, students, lawyers and human rights defenders are facing harassment, detention and legal action under counterterrorism (CTD) laws.
She also highlighted the continued detention of activists, including several BYC leaders such as Dr. Mahrang Baloch, stating that these actions reflect broader efforts to silence peaceful voices advocating for justice.
During her address, she called for an independent and impartial assessment by the United Nations into the human rights situation in Balochistan. She emphasized the need for meaningful steps toward accountability and the protection of fundamental rights to address ongoing concerns.
