SINDH: The Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh Europe Chapter (VMPS) has strongly condemned a police attack on a peaceful protest camp organized by Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS) in Karachi. The protest, held on March 21, 2026, outside the Karachi Press Club, aimed to highlight the issue of enforced disappearances of Sindhi political activists and demand their safe recovery.
In a joint statement, VMPS Europe Chapter coordinators Sarang Sindhi and Saeed Sindhi said that while the protesters were peacefully gathered, police personnel, along with individuals in plain clothes attacked the camp. Participants were reportedly subjected to physical violence, harassment and unlawful detention.
Among those arrested were Sorath Lohar, Convenor of VMPS, along with her three-year-old daughter Bhoomi, Advocate Parwar Azad, Advocate Shams Chandio, Bashiran Zuhrani (wife of missing person Pathan Khan Zohrani), Farman Zohrani (son of Pathan Khan Zohrani),Sunder Jaiser and several others. The detainees were reportedly taken to Darakhshan Police Station in Karachi, where a false FIR was registered against them.
VMPS Europe Chapter described the incident as a grave violation of human rights and an attempt to silence peaceful voices calling for justice for missing persons.
Sarang Sindhi and Saeed Sindhi have appealed to international human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Human Rights First and the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), urging them to take immediate notice of the incident and hold the responsible authorities accountable.
