QUETTA: The protest camp established by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) against enforced disappearances in Balochistan continued for the 6,093rd consecutive day outside the Quetta Press Club on Saturday.
The camp is being led by VBMP Executive Committee member Niaz Muhammad and remains part of the organization’s ongoing campaign demanding the recovery of missing persons.
During the protest, a delegation led by Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Balochistan and a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), visited the camp to express solidarity with the families of the missing persons.
Addressing participants, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said that there has been a sharp increase in cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of missing Baloch individuals in Balochistan. He termed these actions a violation of the country’s laws and fundamental human rights and strongly condemned the practice.
He called on the government to immediately end enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, ensure the safe recovery of all missing persons and produce before courts those against whom there are formal charges. He also urged authorities to take practical steps under the law to resolve what he described as a serious humanitarian issue.
Speaking on the occasion, VBMP leader Niaz Muhammad reiterated that the organization’s peaceful and constitutional struggle would continue until enforced disappearances are ended and all missing persons are recovered.
