Quetta: A young man identified as Shehroz Baloch, son of Ubaidullah, was forcibly disappeared on February 9, 2025, from his home in the Sariab area of Quetta, according to local sources and family members.
Family members state that Pakistani security forces carried out a raid at their residence and took Shehroz Baloch into custody. Since then, they say, his whereabouts remain unknown.
The family has appealed to the government for his immediate release and has demanded that, if he is accused of any wrongdoing, he should be produced before a court of law in accordance with legal procedures. They emphasized that due process must be followed and that keeping individuals in undisclosed custody violates basic legal and human rights principles.
This incident comes amid reports that more than 100 individuals were taken into custody during raids conducted by Pakistani forces in various areas of Quetta this month. Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Government of Balochistan, stated in a press release to the media that over 100 individuals had been detained during operations. However, families claim that none of those detained have been presented before courts, nor have their identities been officially disclosed.
Human rights organizations and families of the disappeared have expressed serious concern over the situation. They state that in previous cases, individuals who had been forcibly disappeared by state forces were later reported killed in what were described as “encounters.” Families and rights groups have rejected such accounts, saying that those incidents were staged.
