One Released in Quetta, Four Youth Forcibly Disappeared from Kech and Khuzdar

QUETTA: Incidents of enforced disappearances continue to be reported from Balochistan, with four more young men reportedly forcibly disappeared from Kech and Khuzdar over the past two days. Meanwhile, another previously disappeared youth has reportedly been released in Quetta after seven months in custody.

According to local sources in Khuzdar, security forces detained two young men Saleem Ahmed, son of Karim Jan, and Zubair Ahmed, son of Akbar from Nal’s main bazaar on 9 January at around 12:30 pm. Both men were reportedly taken away in vehicles to an undisclosed location and have disappeared since then. Sources added that Zubair Ahmed is a nursing student while Saleem Ahmed is a government employee working as a peon.

In a separate incident, two more youth were reportedly detained in Mand area of Kech on 8 January during raids on their homes. Those identified include Umar Baloch, son of Liaquat Gohram, a resident of Mand Koh Pusht, and Abdullah Baloch, son of Iqbal Baloch, a resident of Mand Giab. Family members said that both were taken into custody and subsequently forcibly disappeared, with no information provided about their whereabouts.

In another development, Adnan Sarpara, son of Abdul Ghaffar, who was forcibly disappeared seven months ago from Quetta, has now been released, according to family sources. They said Adnan has reached home after months of incommunicado detention, though no official explanation regarding his custody has been provided.

Human rights groups in Balochistan have repeatedly voiced concern over enforced disappearances in the Balochistan, calling for adherence to due process, production of detainees before courts, and communication of detention details to families.
