Quetta: In a statement issued by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), it was said that on October 28, 2025, Pakistani security forces forcibly disappeared Naziyah Shafi and her mother from Panachi, a remote area of Panjgur district in Balochistan.
According to the statement, during custody, both mother and daughter were subjected to severe torture by Pakistani security personnel. Nazia Shafi was also reportedly subjected to sexual assault and was later found in a half-dead state at the Panjgur District Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following evening despite medical treatment.
The organization stated that Nazia Shafi’s mother, who was also tortured by the security forces, is in critical condition and has been shifted to a hospital in Karachi.
The BYC said that this horrific incident reflects a systematic and growing pattern of state violence against Baloch women in Balochistan. It added that just last month, in the Zehri area of Khuzdar district, a woman named Sufia Bibi was forcibly disappeared during a raid by security forces. Prior to that, on May 29, 2025, Mahjabeen Baloch, a 23-year-old university student, was abducted from the women’s hostel at Quetta Civil Hospital and remains missing to this day.
According to the organization, such incidents highlight the grim reality that state institutions are targeting Baloch women under a policy of collective punishment and thousands of Baloch women have already fallen victim to this brutal practice.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee has appealed to the UN Human Rights Council, the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, the UN Committee Against Torture, and international human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to take immediate notice of this grave violation of human rights.
In its statement, the BYC also urged the international community to ensure an impartial investigation into the enforced disappearance, torture and sexual assault of Nazia Shafi and her mother, and to deliver justice in Nazia Shafi’s death.
The committee further called on the Government of Pakistan to be pressured to immediately halt enforced disappearances, torture and gender-based violence in Balochistan.
The statement concluded by saying that providing justice to Nazia Shafi, her mother and all Baloch women is both a moral and legal responsibility of the international community.
