KABUL: An Afghan journalist was killed and another injured after coming under Pakistani cross-border shelling and gunfire while covering clashes between Pakistani and Afghan forces along the Durand Line.
According to TOLOnews, the journalists were reporting on the ongoing border clashes in Afghanistan’s Paktia province when Pakistani forces targeted the area with both aerial and ground fire.
TOLOnews identified the slain journalist as Abdul Ghafoor Abid of Paktia National Television, while another journalist, Tawab Arman, sustained injuries in the attack.
Reports indicate that several civilians have also been killed in recent days as border tensions escalate between the two countries. Afghan authorities have accused Pakistan of targeting civilian populations and fueling instability along the border, while Pakistan has claimed that the clashes began after Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border posts.
A day earlier, Afghan media reported that Pakistani border forces detained and killed seven Afghan laborers who were attempting to cross into Iran via Balochistan for work.
Pakistani authorities have not yet issued any statement regarding the reported killing of Afghan civilians. However, Pakistani media outlets claimed that the military targeted suspected Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts near the Afghan border.
