Kabul: Internet and mobile network services in Afghanistan remain severely disrupted for the second consecutive day, leaving most citizens cut off from the outside world. Reports indicate that mobile data, Wi-Fi, and fiber-optic services have largely collapsed, with connectivity dropping to less than one percent.
Multiple sources claim that Taliban authorities ordered the shutdown of fiber-optic internet, citing the need to block “immoral content.” However, some government representatives insist that there has been no complete shutdown nationwide, attributing the disruptions to old and faulty fiber cables.
The suspension of internet services has created major challenges for the public, journalists, educational institutions, businesses, and international organizations. Residents across various cities have reported difficulties in communication and accessing information, further worsening an already critical situation.
While the Taliban government denies a nationwide shutdown and says technical issues are being addressed, independent sources confirm that connectivity is almost entirely lost, with no signs of normal service returning soon.
