At Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences, police and university administration stormed a peaceful protest camp of Baloch students, raided hostels and opened direct fire, leaving several students injured while many others were arrested.
According to details, Baloch students had been staging a sit-in on campus for several days, protesting against academic issues and the lack of basic facilities. This morning, district police and university authorities launched a joint operation, forcibly dismantling the protest camp. During the crackdown, students who resisted were severely baton-charged and many were taken into custody and shifted to an unknown location.
Sources reported that during today’s class boycott, police also entered university buildings and hostels, assaulting students and making further arrests. Eyewitnesses confirmed that police opened direct fire, injuring several students. The wounded were moved to a local hospital, where some are said to be in critical condition.
Student organizations strongly condemned the incident, calling it an “anti-education act,” and demanded the immediate release of the detained students and medical treatment for the injured. Meanwhile, university administration and district police officials have not issued any formal statement regarding the incident.
