Turbat – The Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC) has expressed serious concern over the exclusion of Jhalawan Medical College, Khuzdar, from the recent provincial budget, calling it a continued injustice to students and the region.
In a press statement, BSAC highlighted that while provincial leaders boast of educational reforms and grand development plans, Balochistan continues to suffer from a lack of basic facilities in health, education, employment and infrastructure.
The organization recalled that a decade ago, the provincial government had announced the establishment of three medical colleges. However, due to lack of planning, corruption and administrative negligence, Jhalawan Medical College still operates out of a technical college building and lacks a dedicated campus, teaching hospital, student hostels and staff accommodations, despite tenders being issued in 2018.
Unlike the Makuran and Loralai Medical Colleges, which have progressed significantly, Jhalawan remains deprived. This year’s budget again fails to allocate development funds, putting the future of hundreds of students at risk, as the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) may revoke the college’s accreditation due to non-compliance with infrastructure standards.
BSAC has warned that continued negligence amounts to denying fundamental rights and has demanded immediate release of funds, as well as strict action against those responsible for previous embezzlement and delays.
The group called for urgent completion of the college building, teaching hospital and hostel, so the region can finally benefit from essential health and education services long overdue.
