The Wadh campus of Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences is reportedly facing possible closure, raising serious concerns among students, staff, and the local community. The institution, regarded as a crucial center of higher education for the youth of Wadh and surrounding underprivileged areas, plays a significant role in regional development and educational empowerment.
According to sources, several staff members have recently received termination notices without clear policy justification. In response, campus employees have launched ongoing protests demanding transparency and job security. However, rather than initiating dialogue, university authorities have reportedly issued explanation letters to protesting staff — a move seen by many as an attempt to suppress dissent.
On May 13, 2025, campus employees staged a demonstration against alleged administrative decisions, resulting in a complete boycott of classes and examinations. The protest has disrupted academic operations and placed students’ educational futures at risk.
Protesters are calling for the campus to be upgraded to a full-fledged university, ensuring sustainable access to quality education within the region. Public rallies against the campus’s potential closure have also drawn wide participation from residents, including women and children — underscoring the institution’s broader social importance.
Local stakeholders are urging the Government of Balochistan, the Chancellor, the Higher Education Commission, and regional leadership to intervene and ensure the continued functioning of the Wadh campus. They stress that any closure would amount to depriving an entire region of access to education and opportunity.
