QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Shutter-Down and Wheel-Jam Strike Across Balochistan Against Sorab Airstrikes
According to the source, at the call of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed today in Mastung, Turbat, Noshki, and other parts of Balochistan, protesting the Pakistan Air Force’s bombing of civilians in the Gidar area of Sorab district, which killed women, children, and elderly residents.
In Mastung, major markets and roads remained closed as traders and transporters expressed solidarity with the victims. Similarly, Turbat observed a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike, though organizers said that local police and administration officials pressured shopkeepers to reopen and forcibly broke locks to disrupt the protest. Residents reportedly stood firm despite this pressure. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show police opening shops themselves and pressuring shopkeepers to resume business.
Markets in Noshki also remained closed in solidarity with the Sorab victims and their families.
Organizers described the bombing of residential areas as a serious human rights concern and called for urgent attention from human rights groups and the international community, demanding accountability for the civilian deaths. They said the strike is part of a broader, growing movement across Balochistan against what they call the impunity surrounding civilian killings.
