Threats Against Baloch Scholars Part of Systematic Campaign to Silence Educated Voices, Says Dr. Naseem Baloch

Dr Naseem Baloch interview with Zrumbesh TV

PARIS: Baloch National Movement (BNM) Chairman Dr. Naseem Baloch has warned that threats being issued against PhD scholars, teachers, students and researchers in Balochistan are part of a systematic campaign to silence and eliminate educated voices, in a statement shared on social media platform X.

Dr. Naseem Baloch condemned what he described as threats issued by Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti against PhD scholars, alleging they represent a continuation of longstanding state policy. He said that Pakistan had used similar tactics in Bangladesh, where he claimed proxy groups and the Pakistani army targeted intellectuals, professors, students, writers and poets during the Bangladesh genocide, adding that the same policy is now being repeated in Balochistan.

The BNM chairman cited the killing of Ghamkhwar Hayat as one example of what he described as a pattern of first threatening and then carrying out targeted killings of writers and poets in Balochistan.

He warned that the current threats against PhD scholars, teachers, students, and researchers clearly indicate preparations to silence educated voices in Balochistan, which is already facing such atrocities by the state of Pakistan in various forms.

Dr. Naseem Baloch further said that Pakistan seeks to deprive the Baloch people not only of dignified living but also of education, intellectual growth, scientific progress and freedom of thought.

He called on the Baloch nation to unite against what he described as Pakistani genocidal policies, reiterating his organization’s position that the only solution is the independence of Balochistan.
