QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Balochistan National Party (BNP) President Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta on Tuesday, where the court granted him bail and adjourned the hearing until the next date.
Mengal was accompanied by his legal team and senior party leaders during the court appearance. A case had been registered against him in connection with a sit-in and public gathering he organized to demand the release of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leadership.
Following arguments presented by the defence counsel, the court approved Mengal’s bail application and postponed further proceedings to a future date.
Speaking to media outside the courtroom, Mengal said he was being targeted for raising his voice for his ideology, enforced disappearances and the rights of the people of Balochistan. He said he would not bow down to any pressure.
The case against Mengal is part of a broader crackdown on political figures in Balochistan who have publicly supported the BYC movement, which has been at the forefront of demanding the recovery of missing persons in Balochistan.
