QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: A 20-year-old young man was shot and killed by police in the Jinnah Town area of Quetta late Monday night after the vehicle he was travelling in allegedly failed to stop at a police checkpoint, officials said.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Safeer Bajwa, was travelling in a Kabuli vehicle from Saryab Road when officers signalled the vehicle to stop. When the driver allegedly sped away, police opened fire in the Jinnah Town area, fatally wounding Safeer Bajwa.

The body of the deceased was transferred to Quetta Civil Hospital, where it was later handed over to his family following necessary legal procedures.

According to sources, Safeer Bajwa was the son of a National Highway Authority (NHA) officer. Two other young men were also present in the vehicle at the time of the incident and escaped unharmed. Sources further said that one of the surviving passengers is the son of a police officer.

The Home Department has so far declined to comment on the incident or provide any official information regarding the circumstances of the shooting.

No official investigation has been announced so far. The incident has raised serious questions regarding the use of lethal force by police against a fleeing vehicle carrying unarmed civilians.
