Kharan, Balochistan: On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, an attempted abduction of a minor was successfully prevented in Kharan thanks to the timely intervention of local citizens. The suspect was apprehended on the spot and handed over to the police.
According to reports, in the morning near Maulana Jamal Nasir Mosque in Kharan city, a man attempted to forcibly abduct a young child by putting him in a car. Observing the suspicious activity, residents immediately pursued the vehicle.
After a brief chase, the residents intercepted the car near Bado Kahor and caught the suspect red-handed, subsequently handing him over to law enforcement.
The police identified the suspect as Irfan Ahmed Shahwani, son of Haji Sanaullah Shahwani, a resident of Kharan city. A case has been registered against him, and an investigation is underway, while the child was safely returned to his parents.
Some social and political circles have raised concerns that the suspect may be linked to a so-called state-backed local militia, commonly referred to as a “death squad.” Observers say the audacity of the attempted abduction suggests the suspect likely had backing, and that such acts may form part of a broader strategy to intimidate those who oppose state oppression in Balochistan.
Local communities praised the courage and quick action of the citizens, noting that their bravery prevented a major tragedy on what should have been a day of celebration.
