Quetta: Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Sibghatullah Shaji, in a statement shared on social media platform X, strongly condemned Pakistan’s ongoing state repression against the Baloch people and called for immediate intervention by international organizations.
Shaji emphasized that global institutions cannot remain silent while the Pakistani state continues to oppress the Baloch nation. “The Baloch people have the fundamental right to live with dignity like any other nation in the world,” he said.
Highlighting the case of Farzana Baloch from Khuzdar, Shaji stated that she was abducted and held in a torture cell for several months, during which she was coerced into giving statements. “We all know the kind of coercion she must have endured in such conditions. Where was she all these months? Is there any law that justifies enforced disappearance and torture like this?” he asked.
Shaji also addressed the ongoing persecution of BYC leaders, including Dr. Sabiha Baloch and Dr. Mahrang Baloch, noting that despite over a year of investigation, Pakistani authorities have failed to produce any evidence against them or four other imprisoned BYC leaders.
“Now, a media propaganda campaign has been launched against BYC and Dr. Sabiha,” Shaji said, recalling that state institutions previously abducted Dr. Sabiha’s father, kept him in a torture cell for months, and issued threats against her. “Despite this, Dr. Sabiha Baloch remained steadfast and has become a symbol of resistance and struggle among the Baloch people,” he added.
Shaji further highlighted the case of another female, Mahil, who was abducted and subjected to a media trial. He stated that all allegations made by the state were later proven false, underlining a pattern of targeting peaceful political workers and creating public misinformation.
He concluded by reiterating the urgent need for international action to end enforced disappearances, media trials, and repression of the Baloch people, calling on global institutions to hold Pakistan accountable for these systematic violations.
