Quetta: The Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has paid tribute to Baloch women for their resistance against state repression and patriarchal systems on the occasion of International Women’s Day, observed on March 8.
In a statement, the organization extended what it described as a “red salute” to oppressed and exploited women around the world, particularly Baloch women, acknowledging their historic struggle, sacrifices and resilience. The group said Baloch women have played a significant role in resisting occupation, injustice, and social oppression while continuing their struggle for a society based on freedom, dignity and equality.
The BSO spokesperson said that in movements of oppressed nations against global imperial systems and their local allies, women particularly Kurdish and Baloch women have played a vanguard role, demonstrating that women are not only part of resistance movements but also a powerful force for revolutionary change.
The statement added that ruling classes and oppressive systems have historically attempted to limit women’s social roles and suppress their political participation in order to maintain systems of exploitation. The organization condemned such efforts and emphasized that genuine freedom for any society cannot be achieved without women’s liberation and social equality.
The BSO further stated that throughout history, women have played a decisive role in organizing collective life and maintaining harmony between society and nature. According to the statement, these qualities often make them targets of oppressive forces.
The organization also raised concerns over ongoing repression against Baloch women, saying that several have been killed while others have been subjected to enforced disappearances. It also referred to the detention of leaders associated with the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Beebow Baloch and Gulzadi Baloch, are being held unlawfully.
BSO called for the immediate and safe recovery of all disappeared Baloch women and demanded the release of detained activists, including Mahrang Baloch, Beebow Baloch and Gulzadi Baloch. It also urged authorities to withdraw politically motivated cases against them.
Reaffirming its stance, the organization said it would continue to support the struggle for women’s freedom, equality and national dignity, expressing hope that Baloch women and the Baloch nation will eventually overcome oppression and establish a society based on justice and dignity.
